WHAT DEFINES US

At Meulien, being strong, daring, and confident is an attitude and a lifestyle. We create uniquely modern jewelry to engender such sense and visual. We hope that you enjoy exploring and discovering with us how your inner strength, courage, and confidence transpire.

WHO WE ARE

Co-founder, designer and chief maker, Young Meng, started his career in law and eventually became a judge. However, what else he’s always been drawn to is handcraft, and arts and design.  At a young age, he would take apart things like a clock or speakers and re-assemble the parts back together.  Having grown older, he then learned painting and taught himself graphic design. He went on to further study graphic design at Parsons School of Design in New York City and graduated with honors. Having realized that it is jewelry design where he could combine his love for handcraft and design, he embarked upon a multi-year journey to train himself as a jeweler in areas such as jewelry sketching, stone setting, casting, wax carving, and 3D modeling. Meulien is a creation of his passion for jewelry design and meticulous training in Paris and New York.

To Young, design should be larger than aesthetics; it should ultimately be an enhanced mode to convey meanings and engender an impact. Multiple years of training and career in law has instilled in Young a sense of strength, courage, and confidence. He holds these values dear in his life and work and seeks to promote a similar impact on others. Young embeds these values in his artistic and creative pursuit and explores ways to stimulate inner strength, courage and confidence in other people.

WHAT'S INSPIRED US

Influenced by aesthetics from Art Nouveau, Art Deco movements, and contemporary minimalism, Meulien embodies sensual and graceful lines, symmetrical and clean geometric forms, and vivid and contrasting colors.

Our designs emphasize the interaction between the jewelry and the body, with each piece caressing the neck, lingering on the wrist, stroking the ear, or frolicking between the fingers. The rhythmic interaction expresses exquisite sensuality. Our designs are infused with sculptural artistry. When worn, the sculpted lines immerse with the skin. Off the body, each piece is a work of art in its own right. Our designs take trends to the next level by creating original ways to wear jewelry and unique styling options. Our designs transcend gender, embracing individualized pursuit of aesthetics.

Meulien was born at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Overcoming pandemic-induced obstacles in addition to challenges associated with launching a business was no easy feat. Yet it is individuals' vulnerability and resilience manifested throughout the pandemic that have instilled a sense of fragility and strength in our designs.

WHAT WE OFFER

Our products are made of 18K gold vermeil for yellow and rose gold colors.

Vermeil, also known as “silver gilt”, refers to high quality silver, usually .925 sterling silver, that is plated with a thick layer of fine gold of at least 10K. Vermeil is therefore widely considered as a great alternative to solid gold. In comparison, gold plating uses a brass, copper, or low-end metal plated with usually a thinner layer of gold with no requirement on the karat weight.

We utilize a white gold process on our products in silver color by applying a layer of rhodium, a precious metal, more precious than platinum, for extra shine and protection.

Our base metal, .925 sterling silver, consists of 92.5% pure silver and is marked on jewelry as S925. .925 sterling silver offers just the right degree of flexibility and hardness. Our plating metal, 18K gold, consists of 75% gold and 25% alloy. 18K gold and silver, also a precious metal, are 2 of the most commonly used materials for high-end jewelry. We use sustainably sourced and recycled gold and silver.

Not only do we use 18K gold for plating, but also the plating thickness of the 18K gold is as much as 30 times that of common gold-plated silver, copper, or brass jewelry. The extra thickness of 18K gold affords much better tarnish protection and maintains the shine much longer.

The cubic zircon stones (CZ) used in our jewelry is of the highest AAAAA grade. Our designs also feature high-grade freshwater pearls and natural malachite stones.

At Meulien, craftsmanship is the cornerstone. Every and each piece is skillfully crafted by experienced goldsmiths and silversmiths. Meticulous high polishing results in vivid colors and mirror-like shine throughout. Stone-setting exacted by hand secures a stone firmly in place and enhances its brilliance by showing the cut, clarity and color. All products undergo 3 strict quality inspection processes to fulfill quality standards.
